If we were to characterize the last couple months of Holden's life, it would be the time that his imagination took flight. Fueled by his favorite television programs and books, especially "The Backyardigans" (for this week, anyway), as well as his friends, Holden's talking a lot about all the things he's done, is doing, or is going to do.

Whether it be how we're going to take the Space Shuttle and go to the Purple Planet, then come back and pick up Daddy at The Desert House, or how he is going to be an astronaut when he's done being a Power Ranger and before he's Batman, Holden's got lots of great ideas. He often tells us how the police officer took him "there." This officer, who is a
girl, he's certain to clarify, has taken him rock climbing and skiing. He spins elaborate yarns from the back seat about how when he was a police officer chasing the bad guys or how he flew "superfast" to help the people get away from the bad guys. At least he always aligns himself with the white hats, even in his imagination.

And this makes sense, considering how truly good Holden strives to be. He's good-natured, good-hearted and just wants to have good days with no time outs. The list of things he's good at continues to grow. He's good at Candyland, and even better at trash-talking his way to victory. Before each game, he warns: "I'm gonna get the ice cream, wa-haa-haa." Then he gloats about picking the "Duh. Bull. Pur. Pull. Wa-haa-haa." And after a rare defeat, he stays gracious and realizes it was fun to play, no matter if he lost.

Holden's also getting amazingly good at everyday tasks. Brushing his teeth in the morning is entirely his responsibility, and a recent trip to the dentist shows he's doing a great job at getting all the "sugar bugs." He spits, rinses and wipes (usually) like a pro.

Except for socks and the occasional trapped arm in a long-sleeved shirt, Holden's become quite good at getting himself dressed and undressed. He's not necessarily the fastest at it, but he takes great joy in this twice-daily accomplishment.

And, despite some initial strong fears, Holden's become quite good at pushing himself past his comfort zone in the water. He diligently does his swim school homework by practicing putting his face in the water and floating in the bath.

So when he talks of a future filled with getting the bad guys or flying to the stars, you just know that Holden will try his hardest to live life good. Dream big, little guy.
