Another week without daycare ... another Nix Family adventure! This time, we set our sites on a kid-friendly vacation close to home and headed south to San Diego. On our first night, we stayed with Jessica and her new fiance, Bill, in Encinitas.

We went to a cute park near her home to get some fresh air after a not-so-long car ride. Jessica was (luckily) full of energy and good ideas!

Jessica and Bill

Some other old camp friends, Jeff and Gayle, came by with their kids for a BBQ. Here is Noah, 4, and Isaiah, 8 months. Noah and Holden had a good time playing on the scooters together.

The next day was the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park in Escondido. We road the tram ride through "Africa" and saw lots of great animals. Holden liked the giraffes best. Riley fell asleep.

Our tickets got us unlimited rides on the Conservation Carousel. Holden went three times.

Lions aren't so scary when they're snoozing behind glass.

We got to pet some baby deer.

Some monkeys watching the monkeys!

Riley woke up in time to see some gorillas. Unfortunately, there was no poo throwing.

The next day, we played tourists in San Diego. We walked from Seaport Village along the harbor to a dock, where we embarked on a one-hour boat tour of the harbor.

Riley enjoyed many of our adventures with his eyes closed.

Back at Seaport Village, we had lunch and got a kick out of sharing our ice cream with Riley.

The next day, at Sea World. Riley doing what Riley does.

We got there very early and had lots of crowd-free time to get up-close with some of the animals. Here, Holden is making friends with a dolphin.

The Gratuitous Shamu Shot. Besides the giraffes, Holden is also still talking about the whale show.

Riley woke up half-way through the show. It was very hot and we only saw the dolphins after this before calling it a day and heading back to Los Angeles.
