Big strides are sure made by little legs! Holden, notoriously afraid, has eagerly watched in anticipation this week as the carnival again came to the park up the street. We've been there, done that, with no success ... so didn't really think much would come from a visit. We couldn't be more wrong. He went RUNNING with excitement toward each ride, especially drawn to the ferris wheel, which he talked about all week.

The first ride he wanted to do was the airplane, which, of course makes sense considering his fascination with them. But, we thought, once he realized he was going to have to do it solo, he'd be all, "No way." Way.

From there, we were naturally led to the car ride, and he loved looking at the goofy duck-looking gas pump thing he was circling. In true Holden fashion, he spoke to us the whole way, not realizing we could only catch a second of his words as he flew by.

But the highlight for sure was the empty and expensive ferris wheel. As we walked up, we saw the sign declaring no one under age 7 could ride. We told Holden and, again, in true Holden fashion, he was in tears. He was so disappointed. The operator took one look at him and shook his head, but obviously felt bad. He asked how old he was and, without hesitating, I said, "Eight." He laughed, and we were on!
