Worshipping at Temple Legoland for Ra's Birthday

While we remain "those parents" who refuse to spend hundreds of dollars to listen to our kids whine all day about being hot, tired and hungry at what is supposed to be "the happiest place on Earth," we figured we could start with baby steps. Riley decided that, for his 5th birthday, we'd have a small gathering at home and then have a big day at Legoland. School was closed on Rosh Hashana, so, instead of my usual worship routine at temple, the whole family worshipped at Temple Legoland.

Our first ride was a mini roller coaster, which was pretty scary for Riley, but a good ice breaker. After that, the smaller rides weren't so intimidating.
They both really liked driving the Lego cars and getting their driver's licenses.

Holden was very brave and rode rides none of the rest of us would - like this swinging buccaneer ship that looked like it would make anyone barf.

It was one of those rare days where there were no meltdowns and whining was at a minimum. We smiled and laughed a lot, really enjoying each others' company. The kids skipped from ride to ride and were thrilled by everything.

New at Legoland is the Star Wars exhibit, which was a real treat for Kevin, Holden and I - true Star Wars geeks. It was very impressive. The battle on Hoth at the beginning of the Empire Strikes Back:
Mos Eisley on Luke's home planet of Tatooine:
Droid battle:
At the bunker behind the blast shield operation on Endor in Return of the Jedi:
This ride was small, but it made my stomach turn big:
Riley and I sat this one out, the biggest rollercoaster in the park. Right before, we all rode another rollercoaster where Riley, speaking the clearest he ever had once it got fast and crazy outside of the castle where it began, said: "I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE CASTLE RIGHT NOW!"
Toward the end of the day, the boys got to build Lego cars and race them. It was a lot of hand on fun:
