Kickin' Balls

It was time for some AYSO Soccer!!! Fall in our house means hours spent at Adams Field on the weekends. That time extended this year with the addition to Riley playing his first (and maybe last) soccer season.

In true Riley fashion, he seemed pretty certain he wanted to play - especially after two years of watching Holden play from the sidelines and the idea that he could play on his friend Hunter's team (Hunter's dad, Adam, was Holden's soccer coach last year and that was how Riley apparently envisioned his season would go. He was right.). But, when cleat came to grass, he was a lot less interested than he originally let on. When he put his mind and feet to it, though, he was a great player. The trick was to get him focused and not whining long enough to score some goals. And score some goals, he did!
Go Lava Rockets!

Holden's third soccer season was a great one. His coach, Matt, was very dedicated and knowledgeable and he was randomly put on a team with two of his best buddies: Tyler S. and Henry. Holden is shaping up to be a great defense man, and seems to prefer the back and goalie positions.

He is great at anticipating where the play will go and coming out without fear to block the ball. He didn't seem concerned that he hadn't scored a goal all season ... but I was super proud that, on the last day in one of the final plays of the game, he scored on a penalty kick. I was refereeing that game and couldn't cheer, but I was on the inside!
