Summer Road Trip: Downtown Portland

We hit Portland, and hit the pavement. Holden and Riley impressed us with just how far their little legs could go. We had the stroller, but it was greatly shunned, as we took a walking tour of downtown Portland, that included a trek across a bridge and a light-rail ride.

Holden remarked, "Mommy, this is a big vacation we're on."

Riley strolled around town mostly with one hand in his pocket and the other in my hand. It made taking pictures pretty hard, but I was glad he kept close.

Riley futzed and futzed with his sunglasses. Holden often came to the rescue.

Getting both kids to hold still and look at the camera at the same time was impossible. I'm already dreading the holiday cards.

If Riley's eyebrow looks furrowed with worry, that's because it was. He stood at the train stop repeating: "No train. No train." As we got on, I had to scoop him up to keep him from running, and he grabbed hold of the side of the train so I had to pull him in. It was a short ride and he settled down, alternately saying, "No train" and "Choo-choo!"

These drinking fountains have a really interesting story and a name. I just don't remember what it is.

We passed this construction site twice, and it was a hit. It was the only time they held still.

By far, a highlight of our trip was a visit to Voodoo Donuts - a Portland icon of crazy donut yumminess. Riley enjoyed a chocolate donut with chocolate frosting and Coco Puffs on top. Holden opted for one with mini M&Ms.

Kevin, of course, selected the Mt. Dew donut. We were both very disappointed that they don't make their famous maple bacon donut during the week. Mmmmm.... maple. Mmmmm... bacon. Mmmmm... donut.
