Winter Paradise: June Lake

It was just ... one of those weekends. One of those perfectly beautiful, fun and awesome weekends that make it really hard to come back home and deal with real things like traffic, buildings and work.

It seems almost criminal that I (Denise) had never been up Highway 395 through the Eastern Sierras before President's Day weekend a couple weeks ago. It's a slab of the state that is dramatic and breathtaking. Neither of us had ever heard of June Lake, either, before last year when our friends Adam and Sara mentioned it. (Actually, it was probably more Adam, the avid boarder who had a great weekend up there last year with his son, Spencer).

Everything fell into a place: it snowed the week before, we got a beautiful and brand new house to rent for the weekend and had the best weather imaginable for our three-night stay. Both days, the dads, the older boys and Adam's brother and his friend took to the slopes while Sara and I and the little guys had a great time romping in the snow!

Our Little Snow Angels: Riley and Hunter

Both boys "adopted" snowballs to carry around, name and look after. This was "Snowflake."

The lake was icy and we had a good time watching the snow slide across it.

On the second day, Sara, Riley, Hunter and I went up the chair lift to meet the dads and older boys for lunch and to take some pictures. This is the June Lake valley from the June Mountain Ski Resort - looking east you can almost see Mono Lake in the distance.
