We'd been talking Halloween up for a few weeks, trying to get Holden prepared for trick-or-treating and wearing a costume. But when the spooky day arrived, he was having none of the costume wearing. I sent it with him to daycare for their party, and he wore it for a short while before complaining of being too hot.
That night, he was more interested in his trains than celebrating the holiday. We gently tried to prod him into going, which was silly, seeing as we didn't want to go and the last thing we really wanted to do was convince Holden to get and eat candy.
But after the first trick-or-treaters arrived at our door, Holden was sold. Faster than a speeding bullet, he got his costume on and went out with Riley, dressed as a cute devil. Holden's real happy he went. He had a great time and continues to reap the sugary rewards of his efforts.
